Trip Pack Builder
Build a packing list from the trip you are actually doing. Duration, cold, water, the exit and the land rules each change what has to go in, and the list shows which condition put every line there.
Build the list for this trip
The list changes with the trip. Answer what you know and it will show what those conditions actually add, and why.
What you get back
- A list grouped by system, with a tick box on every line.
- The condition that put each added line there, so you can disagree with it.
- Hard requirements separated out, never counted alongside the rest.
- A printable sheet, and a link that reproduces exactly this list.
The list is not a fixed set of gear. It is what a handful of trip facts require, and those facts come straight from the checklist guides.
- Trip duration
- Sets food, fuel, medication, battery and delay capacity
- Longest dry segment
- Sets water capacity before treatment method matters
- Lowest conditions
- Sets shelter, sleep insulation and clothing jobs
- Hardest exit
- Sets the reserve needed after a delay or injury
- Land rules
- Set permits, storage, fire and waste requirements
- Group
- Sets pace, shared gear care and possible load transfer
Every line the builder adds names the condition that put it there, so you can disagree with it. A list you cannot argue with is a list you cannot check.
What this will not tell you
It will not tell you that you are ready.
Nothing on this page can see your gear, your fitness, or the weather that actually turns up. It shows what the conditions call for, and the judgement stays yours.
Hard requirements are handled differently from everything else. A permit, an approved food-storage method or a current fire rule is not a line you weigh against other lines, so the builder puts them at the top and keeps them out of any count. When one is missing, the guidance from the backpacking checklist is to choose the smaller route or cancel.
